Finally, ceramic tile gets its due. Overlooked by the Green Building movement, tile has much to offer when talking sustainability. Modern production methods are energy efficient; there are ample reserves of raw materials; the material is reusable and recyclable; there are plenty of regional manufacturers which means minimal shipping with the associated pollution/energy costs; and there are no VOCs thanks to the firing process. In short, your tile floor will probably outlast you and your grandchildren. What more can you ask of a sustainable material?
