Great idea and there should be more like it!

The Canadian radio observatory in Algonquin Park nearly got dismantled when the government of the day (bean counters all) thought it a useless expenditure. Fortunately those with some perspicacity came up with public tours (and cabins) where astro-tourism and some great fishing on the bordering lake was implemented. It's a great place to visit and rub shoulders with some interesting people.
