Health officials are deciding who would be treated if hospitals are overwhelmed by patients with the H1N1 flu virus. Ventilators may be in short supply. Here, a baby boy with a flu is treated with an inhaler in a pediatric emergency room in Brooklyn.Officials have been quietly drawing up triage plans in case the number of severely ill people far exceeds the resources needed to treat them all.

Sensationalist headlines piss me off. The article was about the selection of who should receive supplies and equipment, not the same thing at all.

The plans seem to lack practicality, who is going to risk causing somebody's death by forcibly taking their own ventilator from them to give to a lower risk person. They might have to face murder or manslaughter charges. Someone in the article forecast fighting in the street if they tried that. I think they are correct.
