Roger's Equations

This blog features weekly an equation, formula, or constant that occurs frequently in Engineering or Science. I will try to present the subject matter in a nonformal, conversational style that can be easily followed. Criticism and corrections are encouraged, as are suggestions for future discussions.

I want a car that gets 100 mpg

Posted December 05, 2005 8:12 PM by Roger Pink

The last month or so, GM has had to address concerns that it might go bankrupt in the near future. Now GM's management has gone out of its way to say this won't happen, and they have enough money in the bank that I believe them, still, there is something more fundamental at work here. US automakers are having a hard time selling cars. That's why I suggest they make a car that does 100 mpg.

Now I want to be absolutely clear on this, I don't want a 100 mpg car because I'm afraid oil prices are gonna keep rising. Actually, I'm of the opinion that oil will be back in the 40's or 30's within the next five years. No, I want 100 mpg car because I think it would be great to have one, and I'm not the only one.

Automakers, listen to me, having a 100 mpg car would be like inventing the auto version of the iPod. If it was a good looking car, everyone would want one. It gives your car instant credibility, it says you guys can build a well engineered car. Don't make it look stupid though. Take one of your popular styles, a proven one, and use that. Something people already like, because 100 mpg will make it irresistible.

A 100 mpg car may seem an unreasonable demand. But wouldn't it be nice not to have to beg consumers to buy your cars? Can't you hear the buzz?

And to any automaker who reads this and thinks it's outlandish or impossible, I don't care. If you want to tell me you can't do it, don't bother, I'm not interested in excuses, I'll just by a Honda.

SP ssATV design development and inventors notes

01/24/2006 8:27 PM

Hi there all who are interested.

The development of a 100 mpg vehicle would be an advantage over the present fuel consumption of fossil fuel vehicles although why stop there?

I am in the midst of developing a transferal mechanism in the form of an ultra new design I have dubbed SP ssATV. the letters stand for "solar powered semi submersible all terrain vehicle" the two small letters ss semi submersible are in most cases not compulsory thus the vehicle does not come under the heading of a Submersible vehicle it's main function is to have a vehicle that is air tight such as most airplanes are with pressurized cabins.
and so the passengers are kept in the vehicle at speeds in excess of 300kph with a potental top end of 500kph plus.
that is potentially 1.4 hours from New York to Detroit

I have found in the past that the idea of a submersible tends to ward off potential builders of my new system for, small to medium goods and/or passengers plus their luggage.

The accumulation of power for the vehicle will be in the form of transference electromechanical device within the roading eventually and through solar paneling built into the vehicle. these roadings can be the complete road and I envision these to be complete within the next hundred years or less, at present the transference units will be on strips built into the roading in sections so that the traveler can top up their own vehicles as the progress on their journey.

The complexity of the electronic design of my vehicle needs at present a highly resourceful electro-magnetics engineer.

The fuel consumption as it stand is electricity so a bit more than 100 mpg.

The Solution to changing over to all electrical vehicles globally suffered because the electric vehicle was weighed down with the storage of the power it needed to run and that meant that the vehicle also had to carry the extra weight which degraded the vehicles potential range or the potential carrying capacity. having this extra load for energy storage embedded into the road was I believe the solution to all our solar powered vehicles capacity and yet there was one more element that electric vehicle manufactures have still to overcome.

How do we (the planets travelers) change from fossil fuel vehicles of today to a glitteringly new solar roading and all electric vehicle fleet, globally.

I have the solution ready and rearing for the production floor of car manufactures everywhere. A "wheel form" (wheel shape and design,) that will finally put an end to the fossil fuel vehicle manufacturing and a production wheel that will equipt their vehicles with a motor to replace their motor with an "in the wheel built motor" powered by electricity.

So what are you doing still reading this note send me a letter to mdbobbo@ihug.co.nz and become a partner of the
