What Perks Would Improve Your Productivity?

Posted January 17, 2011 6:58 AM

Some companies, even during the recession, provide extensive on-site benefits such as free high-end dining, gyms, childcare, valet laundry and dry cleaning, car wash facilities, and doctors' offices. Others provide things like free shuttle buses for commuters and interesting speaker series. What types of benefits or programs would improve your productivity and focus at work?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Robotics Systems, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Robotics Systems today.

Listening to music while working not to loud just on low. Maybe the ability to take an advance out on your paycheck once in a while to have piece of mind while your at work that your electric wont get shut off or your water. I don't have these problems but they were the only kinds of examples I could think of at the time.

Shuttle service would be great also since I have a difficult time myself getting to work and back in bad weather.

To honestly say what perks would help improve productivity for me, I would have to say, more training. More incentives for good work instead of ridicule when you make a mistake would be nice too, but with proper training workers wouldn't make as many mistakes as they would without. Proper training not only educates a worker, but it also helps give them more confidence to work a little faster without worrying if they are doing it right or not.

I agree on the training part and more importantly, the TIME for training. Trying to cram professional development into the 2 and 1/2 spare minutes you have between the job, family, and home just doesn't work.

As I said here, good old fashioned time off with pay.

When was the last time your boss said "Take the afternoon, go shoot some golf"?

It is very easy to feel appreciated when there is a little give by the company in the 'Give and Take' of daily business. I think this is pretty rare anymore.

I agree. Mostly what you see anymore is take, take, take.
