Earlier this week, Hexagon Metrology joined forces with GE Measurement
& Control Solutions in a commercial partnership that could boost the use of
computed tomography (CT) in industrial applications. Within the next few
months, Hexagon plans to add the first CT system to its already robust portfolio
of metrology products.
Hexagon Metrology is the world's largest supplier of
metrology software and equipment. With brands such as Brown & Sharpe, Leitz,
and Leica Geosystems, Hexagon boasts a global sales network and established
customer base. The company, part of the Hexagon AB Group, makes coordinate
measuring machines (CMMs), portable and handheld measurement instruments, and
metrology software.
GE Measurement & Control Solutions designs and builds sensor-based
measurement, non-destructive testing (NDT), and condition monitoring systems. With
over 40 facilities in 25 countries, this division of GE Energy Services includes
customers in the oil and gas, aerospace, power generation, healthcare, and transportation
industries.
Is collaborating with GE the "next logical step," as Hexagon
president Norbert Hanke asserts, in his company's quest for "the most comprehensive
portfolio of metrology solutions"? Or should Hexagon Metrology have continued
its strategy of acquiring other companies, as it did most recently with the software development firm Technodigit SARL?
