CR4 - The Engineer's Place for News and Discussion®

Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

The Long Haul: Automotive Products Challenge

Posted June 09, 2011 8:00 AM by dstrohl

For Hemmings Motor News, I'm writing up a little piece on the Veeder Hub-Odometer, those devices you see on heavy truck wheel hubs that measure mileage. It turned out that Veeder originally started making them for bicycles in 1895, introduced a car line in 1901 and still makes them today, 110 years later. That surely places them in very exclusive company - how many businesses could possibly have done the same?

I came up with a few immediately - Champion spark plugs, Michelin tires - but thought it would be fun to see what you smart people can think of. So your challenge: Identify as many automotive products as you can which did the same function, under the same brand name, for the duration of the 20th Century. Maybe it's not as small a list as I think.
