"Story board" the process and do walk through with simulated error conditions. It's always the error conditions that get missed and are usually the hardest to "plan" for.

I used to go behind computers (these were large floor models) and pull the plug to see what would happen to new software. I also had some tricks for generating "unsolicited interrupts" which would quite often catch conditions not thought of.

When installing a super-computer system, we had to literally walk equipment from the loading dock to the computer room to ensure every doorway/hallway would allow movement on lift trucks/pallets. Even things like the directions for the delivery driver need to be tested!
