Needed: Better Battery Recycling

Despite growing demand for lithium-ion batteries and concern over resource availability, poor process economics constrain battery recycling. A Waste Management World article considers current cost and technology challenges in this emerging field. Perhaps the ROTW could take a lead from Europe? For more information on how Europe handles recycling read here and here

One of the reasons the OEMs are looking into recycling Li-ion batteries is that they are legally obliged so to do in Europe. Poor process economics have a smaller influence when fines are high...

Battery recycling is a low cost and easy way for anyone to manage their batteries and electronics waste.
