A Paucity of Pediatric Devices

Posted October 27, 2011 7:29 AM

Does the major focus of medical device innovation seem geared toward a geriatric demographic? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is providing grants to stimulate unmet needs and drive greater development in pediatric device design. A lag in realization between child- and adult-centered devices is cited, possibly due to greater challenges posed by considering materials and design durability for patients who are still growing. Do you see a need for increased attention on pediatric medical products?

The administration, any administration insists in being parasites in the invention loop too. They can and do stifle developments. What else? Nothing.

there's far more potential liability dealing with children

kill or maim a couple of old people, there is far fewer reprecussions...

even finding pediatric test subjects is more difficult
