I think that these 'design engineers' should have to dissassemble and reassemble everything that they concoct according to their designs. Some of the things that have to be done to fix things are just ridiculous and huge time wasters.

One item I had to repair had different size (length) screws to secure the case. If you inadvertantly put the wrong size screw in one spot you would short out the power supply. Yep, learned that one the hard way.

If a "design" cannot be fabricated or easily assembled then the design process has not been completed.

Any designer or engineer needs practical hands-on experience in their field.

And that is to get off their arse and out in the field or shop.

Thou this sounds like baiting, anyone that disagrees does not know any better with good reason.

I worked with an engineer that was an undeclared manager.

He wanted to carry all dimensions to 4 decimal places on all weldments.

No G&T. just 4 decimal places. With some of the fabrications, the standard was 1/16" of an inch, and correctly so.

After stating my case that, that is ridicules, he declared engineering drives the shop........I surprise him and agreed with him. But I added, I not on board to driving it into the ground.
