Posted December 08, 2011 7:38 AM

This year did not disappoint with regards to consumer technology development. Looking back at the year, what is the product or service that had the single largest impact on you? Was it a trickier tablet device, a smart phone that could answer your questions, better mobile wireless connectivity, a cooler camera, or some other hot next-tech toy?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Electrical Components, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Electrical Components today.

My favorite tech toy is actually not very high-tech in the Geeky sense of the word, but practical none the less. I am talking about the Weidmuller Terminal Blocks that I found to be in unlimited supply at Specialty Control Systems (one of the biggest distributers of Weidmuller parts that I have found- they are located in the Houston, TX area by the way). Anyways, to the point. These are the benefits listed on the Specialty Control Systems page: Applications: • DCS marshalling cabinet field wiring • Marshalling terminations that use FTA interface modules via BLZ pluggable connectors • Limited space applications that require multiple shield termination points Benefits • 20% space savings with 5 mm width • Ease of installation via the BLZ pluggable connector (cable harnessing) • Unique fuse holder design simplifies the replacement or installation of fuses • Improved flexibility with unique 3-channel jumpering and integrated shielding Does anyone use an alternative product that they are comfortable with? What are your applications? These seem to be the most effective for our applications. This gets my vote for Tech of 2011!

Mine was spam too. I'm thinking about becoming a paddle ball distributor. I guess my spam was so well disguised that nobody noticed.

Time to contact Lyndoor.

My personal favorite is the Gopro camera. It may not be new, but it was new to me, and I enjoyed using it on ziplines on Maui. It also works under water, but the snorkeling there was dismal.

I somehow fail to see how a terminal block is a toy!
