Alfred Nobel, a chemist and inventor who worked with
nitroglycerine and dynamite, left 94% of his worth after death for the
establishment of five prizes. These
included physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, and
peace. The first Nobel Prizes were
awarded on December 10, 1901 - the fifth anniversary of Nobel's death.
