CES of Your Dreams?

Posted January 13, 2012 8:26 AM

The Consumer Electronics Show has come and gone, and we've seen what producers want to sell us. I'm still waiting for a TV with all the plugs easily accessible from the front. What from the show impressed you? What variations on today's electronics would make your home life better? Should everything be Internet-enabled? Wirelessly powered? Repairable? Should all buttons be large enough to push while wearing gloves?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Display Technologies, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Display Technologies today.

What impressed me most about CES was the lack of anything really new...

It seems to me that we are in a technological lull. A period between major leaps forward where all the salesmen can do is rearrange existing tech onto new gadgets. Like WiFi on camcorders. Neat, but hardly the next step change.

I'm not blown away by super high def with no content either.

I'm not totally let down because I know the next wave is coming. I spend these time stretching and straining to catch a glimpse of it coming, and then smile as the rest of the world is taken by surprise.
