Too Many Choices?

Posted January 16, 2012 9:45 AM

Choice is supposed to be good, right? If you're currently shopping for a smartphone, there are so many different models on the market, you may be really confused. Should you buy an iPhone or an Android phone? And, if you decide on an Android phone, do you want one running Gingerbread or one running Ice Cream Sundae? How do you make a decision when there are so many choices and so many unknowns?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Wire & Cable Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Wire & Cable Technology today.

Choices!!!??

Forget schmuttfones. I have enough trouble choosing toothpaste at the supermarket. They can't all be different, can they?

"...or one running Ice Cream Sundae?"

I believe it's Ice Cream Sandwich.

Regardless, choice is not a concern for me; I would simply buy the one that suits my needs.

My concern is how quickly the current version becomes obsolete. There is a bit of a lull in the industry right now. Is the next Big Thing going to wipe everything out?

To decide, Google android vs i-phone and pick an unbiased comparison, then do a demo of each at a local store.

You are welcome. It helps to have just gone through that decision process myself. I learned that it does not pay to have someone else decide for you.

Exactly what I did. I went online to my cell-provider's 'store', did a comparison for what I wanted and went to the provider's store in town to 'drive' them.

Multiple choice, eh? Isn't "None of the above," a common choice?

Is there a magic 8-ball app as a last resort choice enhancer?
