I thought maybe - but it would have to be before being wrapped in half a mile of knicker elastic[1], and I'd've thought they'd make them a bit more perfectly spherical.

[1] The ones I've taken apart have been dam' near perfect spheres, but with lines indented all around where the first couple of layers of elastic dug in.

How about a ball of glazing putty for window glass frames. We usually rolled it in our hands to warm it up to make it softer and easier to squeeze in to place. Then scraped off the excess to make a neat weather seal that lasted for years.Duke

mfgeng guessed correctly - it's a polo ball! I went to a match a few years ago and they let you keep the ball if it goes sailing into the area where you're sitting. Kind of like baseball only there's usually a herd of horses following the ball.
