Reusable Water Bottle Tracks How Much Plastic You Keep Out of the Trash

Posted May 01, 2012 7:55 AM

From Latest Items from TreeHugger:

A reusable water bottle lets you count how many times you refill it, so you know how much plastic you've saved.

So it doesn't count the number that are floating about in the northern Pacific Ocean, then?

I haven't read the article.

What would be the point of such a bottle? Are the green movement people in such need of reinforcement that a badge must be created to demonstrate their commitment to the cause?

Saving the planet is not enough, I need to prove to you I am doing it.

I thought that Virtue was its own reward. But then, so is vice.

I'd have to agree with you. The bottle itself with the application all lead me to believe this is just a smug little design for people to justify their pretentiousness. Also, it doesn't seem to have any kind of measure to prevent "cheating", so I wonder what's stopping me from having 576 bottles of water in a day.

Mizuti: "justify their pretentiousness". That's a very interesting thought. Are pretentious people aware of their own pretenses, and would they seek solutions to justify those pretenses if they did?

Also, what's stopping you from having 576 bottles of water in a day is that I would reset your bottle to 000 daily, whether you were cheating or not.

Find a market = Profit.

Hell of a lot better (and greener) than linear-aligned cryogenic-frozen audio cables.

I vaguely like the idea, just from the viewpoint that I expect we're all a bit blissfully unaware of how much trash we personally generate. But even so, it seems a silly implementation.

I wonder if the plastic part is dishwasher safe?

If not, it will need to be specially "bottle" washed......

The idea is good, but I like my bubbles, I wonder if it is good for high pressure CO2?

Is it twin walled with a vacuum between, so that my water remains cold (or hot) as I would wish?

It may need some further developement I feel......
