Wallpaper that Protects You From Identity Theft

Posted May 12, 2012 2:41 PM

From Wired Top Stories:

There's that guy again, cruising down the block, scanning the airwaves for an open Wi-Fi network named "LINKSYS" or "NETGEAR" that the owner didn't bother to password-protect. Maybe he's just a freeloader. But what if he's an identity thief out to view your browsing history and ? gasp ? maybe even your bank statements! Wouldn't it be nice if you could both beautify your home and make your Wi-Fi network just disappear?

Which would you rather do, put up wallpaper (ugh!) or set the password on your router?

The paper blocks electromagnetic radiation in the frequencies used by Wi-Fi, letting radio waves and cellphone signals pass through without interference.

I wondered about this wallpaper's affect on cell phones. I've been in homes that have aluminum siding on the exteriors and found that I might as well turn off my cell phone. The signals are very weak unless standing next to a window, and if I leave the phone on the battery dies quickly due to the phone constantly searching for a cell tower signal.

But yeah, in practical terms it's a heckuva lot easier to spend the few minutes it takes to password protect your wifi system, or slightly longer if you have to re-learn the system, but still easier than putting up wallpaper. (Including the ceiling?)

Maybe a place like McDonalds would use this stuff to prevent freeloaders from parking outside their fast-food places. This might force users to at least come in and buy a cup of coffee.

I wonder if it intensifies the electromagnetic radiation inside the room or house by deflecting it. High EMF can cause nausea, hallucinations, headaches, and other unwelcome side affects.
