At the inaugural Hardware Innovation Workshop, about 200 leaders in the DIY movement gather to talk about how to build real companies, while still maintaining a maker ethos.
I'm a big fan of how DIY is becoming more and more accessible, and even more of a fan of how much hardware stores are stepping in to help get ideas / projects moving.
On instructables alone, there are tabs for RadioShack, Ace Hardware, and Cabot woodcare with various projects at varying skill levels. It makes creating robots or fixing up the house all the more plausible.
Of course, I'm 100% sure this isn't just a charity case, but it's a great ploy to get people in their stores, looking / buying their products, and getting more hands on instead of just throwing money at problems, and that's a type of corporate advertising that I really like.
