This place is called the Mercat cross, and there are close to 100 such locations in Scotland....

"A mercat cross is the Scots name for the market cross found in Scottish towns and cities where the right to hold a regular market was granted by the monarch or a local laird. It was therefore a symbol of a burgh's relative prosperity. The cross was originally the place where merchants would gather, and it later became the focal point of public events such as announcements, proclamations and executions. To this day, royal proclamations are still ceremonially read in public at the Mercat Cross in Edinburgh, including the calling of general elections and the succession of a new monarch."

First, I thought the architecture generally looked more (European)-ish than, say, (New England)-ish.

Then, I noticed the harp on the left side of the structure in the street and thought it could be associated with (Eire)-land to some degree.

But the photo of the two structures located in Edinburgh, Scotland cinches it as not Irish at all. Good catch, Solar Eagle. If I didn't get to see such photos, I'd never get to (travel) at all...

I think that this looks like a Classical Greek architecture facade.

Well I think the mercat square monument thingy is more Baroque...Possibly even Churrigueresque...

The mercat square itself does date back to a time before any of the pictured Edinburgh buildings existed. However in the 1800's Robert Reid did an architectural redesign of all the major buildings in Edinburgh to classical Greek. Clearly those are Greek Ionic columns that surround that mercat square monument.

Yes it has Traditional greek influence, but I think some Baroque mixed in, it's really a hodgepodge of styles...

SolarEagle hit the nail on the head with his series of comments, it is indeed a Mercat Cross!

Adding to the information given by SolarEagle:
Originally, these buildings had crosses on top of them (thus the name), but this one in particular was later changed to a royal unicorn to represent the Scottish monarchy.
