Mecum is showcasing this minor motorsports celebrity as part of the lineup at its upcoming Monterey Auction: a 1967 Hurst Grand Prix convertible reportedly used at events to show off the voluptuous Linda Vaughn and promote Hurst products.
The Grand Prix, one of five built and said to be one of two still in
existence, was extensively restored over 28 months and made its debut at
the POCI Convention in July of 2010. That same year it turned heads at the 2010 SEMA show
in Las Vegas. Prior to the makeover, the car had been stored for 22
years in Nevada. When it was retired from promotional duties for Hurst,
it was George Hurst's secretary's daily driver.
According to a feature story about the car that appeared in High Performance Pontiac
magazine, the car was completely stripped, and the quarter panels as
well as a portion of the floor replaced, before it was sprayed with
three coats of DuPont ChromaBase Super Jet Black, three coats of Hurst
Gold and House of Kolor Ultra Goldflake followed by four coats of clear.
The unique blue stripe on the car was part of a cross promotion deal
with Goodyear, as the car was shod new with Goodyear Blue Streak Tires.
