How to Fly a B-52 Stratofortress Bomber

Posted June 25, 2012 8:12 AM

From Gizmodo:

Despite their age-they have been flying since the 1950s-the B-52 Stratofortress is still the backbone of the US Air Force's strategic bombing force. These jet-powered beasts can deliver up to 70,000 pounds of weapons to any target around the globe. That includes nuclear weapons, of course.

Nothing like a BUFF to strike fear in the enemy!!!

Did you know that a B-52H Stratofortress (the last variant built & still operational in the USAF & AF Reserves) is fully capable of delivering an astounding total of 108 - 500# gravity bombs when the a/c is equipped with wing pylons? Yuppers!

I have personally witnessed many B-52 Arc Light strikes, both daytime and nighttime, on the Iraqi Army forces during Desert Storm. Even from a distance of 20 miles it's quite the lightshow......and yes, even the ground shook and the air vibrated! It's no wonder we had some many Iraqis surrender in mass!

Ya got that right Tom!

Somehow I felt sorry for the dumb bastards (except the Republican Guards asswipes, who deserved what that got....), as they didn't stand a chance getting clobbered 24/7 by the BUFFS, followed up by scores of Coalition fighters, fighter bombers, and attack aircraft & AC-130 Spectre Gunships (now that is the ultimate light show!).....the "Kill Box Theory" applied by the air forces worked exceedingly well.

A lot of Iraqi Army units were nearly totally decimated, and on some accounts their units were down below 30% combat strength. When an Army unit falls below 50% it is essentially rendered combat ineffective.

[Got my Desert Shades on man.......]

They dropped "a couple" in Nam as well! Rolling Thunder and Arc Light come to mind...there were also some great air-to-air victories for the Buff!
