Chevy Recalls a Half-Million Cruzes Over Plastic-Related Fire Concerns

Posted July 06, 2012 9:00 AM by CarDomain

Nearly 500,000 Chevy Cruze sedans will be recalled in the US and Canada over fears about engine fires. A fire can start, Chevy says, when oil drained during an oil change becomes trapped in one of the plastic shields covering lower parts of the engine. Now will they believe us when we say it's a bad idea to clad modern motors in annoying and unnecessary plastic crap? A video of one of the casualties can be viewed below the jump. Via Carscoop.

I rented one of those on a recent business trip. They deserve to catch fire.

The following IS NOT an endorsement.

I'm curious. What didn't you like about it?

I just bought a 2012 Cruze and it does just what was advertised. It's fun to drive, easy to park and maneuver and gets great gas mileage. I like the look and the interior, while not spacious [at least for the back seat occupants] is functional. Sure, it's down on horsepower, but I didn't buy it for horsepower. I've had no mechanical issues at all. My only complaint is that the RH blind spot seems to be larger than the previous vehicles I've owned.

I guess i am use to my 2005 4 cylinder Malibu. The car i rented was ruptured turtle slow and had rattles all over the place. The door lock did not work and i got the keys stuck in the ignition and could not get them out. When i dropped the car off i complained and the attendant stated he had similar complaints about the car.
