Every so often, we encounter something that's so positively strange
or off the wall that we simply have to share it out of a sense of duty.
The latest case comes via the Photo of the Day page at Coastal 181
of Newburyport, Massachusetts, whose line of racing books have been
reviewed in various Hemmings titles. Coastal's webmaster, Norm Marx, is
also a traveling photographer for the Charlotte-based Pro All Star
Series (PASS), which promotes regional tours for Super Late Models and
other classes up and down the East Coast.
Norm was recently at a PASS race at L'Autodrome Chaudiere in Canada's
province of Quebec, where some local vintage stock cars were a support
class. His original intent was show the big-block Pinto Modified painted
in the immortal Richie Evans's colors, and wonder out loud how many
such re-created cars resembling those of Evans, who was killed in 1985,
exist nationally. Our attention was drawn to the other cars,
particularly that Corvair-bodied stock car.
