I recall Volkswagen "The Thing" hit the US market. Looked just like a WWII German Staff Car. I thought that it looked cool. But it did have safety compliance issues it couldn't overcome.

It was the WWII German Staff car, Hitler himself ordered Porche to design and set up production for a car for the people (= Volkswagen auf Deutch)

It was a very interesting article.

On a few side notes:

  • And in WWII Porsche was in big player in the German Defense with the building of it armor vehicles such as Tiger I & II as well as the Panzer tanks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Porsche

  • I believe recently, Volkswagen just bought out the reminder of Porsche's stock.
