Model Something!

Model Something is a place for engineers to show off their creative side using a number of different mediums to reproduce objects. Every week, an object of varying complexity will be displayed, ready to be modeled. Feel free to use any medium you'd like such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, pencil and paper, MS Paint, Inventor Pro, etc. but please reference what you used to make your model! At the end of each week, all submissions will be posted on CR4's Facebook page!

Don't forget to vote for your favorites!

If you have an object you'd like to see modeled, submit the photo and we'll post it!*

*No vulgar or obscene photo submissions, please

Model Something! 10/18/12 - Halloween!

Posted October 18, 2012 11:30 AM by Mizuti

Difficulty - Easy / Medium / Hard (Take your pick!)

For those of you out there who don't follow the tradition and aren't aware, Halloween is right around the corner! A time for spooky apparitions, cunning tricks, and clever costumes. With that said, we here at CR4 are curious to see what kind of models you all can come up with in the spirit of ghosts, goblins, and ghouls!

For this particular Model Something!, we're looking for custom costumes you might've made, a particular Halloween decoration you created, or maybe just a picture / 3D model of something frightening or in the spirit of taking candy from your neighbors!

As per always for this blog, all mediums of modeling are allowed, whether it be a serious program like Inventor Pro, or something a little silly such as Photoshop or MS Paint. Just make sure to include the name of your medium with your submission, and any sources you might've used!

For some inspiration, go here to see how one of our fellow members creates some festive masks!

Good idea. I don't know if I'll have any submissions but I am looking forward to see this thread grow.

I'll get it started with my first draft of pumpkins.

I carved the ghost, and my lady friend carved the owl. Can you guess which one of us went to Art school?

Who needs to cook when we've got a big bag of fresh orchard apples (see left side of picture) Unfortunately, the poor owl has started sagging into the pumpkin. We'll be doing another one pre-Halloween

That's just like an artist!

They don't give a hoot about practicality. They always go for the prettiest form and pose. Never mind there's not enough structure under the main attraction to support it properly, that's the way she's gotta look.

(I just couldn't pass up the "hoot")

Speaking of apples, try this trick with your next pie: use 3/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp cumin instead of cinnamon only. This gives a nice chutney-like effect.

Adventurous experiment, I'd say; one time I mistaken this condiment and spoiled the broth, after that I labeled the can this way: " No, Noo ! I'm cumin !!

Hmm, might have to give this a shot. 'Tis the season to make more pies than you can shake a stick at

I didn't do this one but found it a rather ambitious attempt...

That is thoroughly frightening. I'm not going to lie, I'm a chicken when it comes to scary movies, haunted houses, etc. and I can say without a shadow of a doubt - if someone walked up to me wearing this mask, I'd be bolting towards the opposite direction.
