Golden Anniversary for Fuel Cell Van

Electronics360 takes note of the 50th anniversary of the world's first hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle — the Electrovan. Developed in 1966 by General Motors, the test vehicle used fuel cell technology first pioneered for NASA's Apollo program. As of 2016, the company has invested more than $2.5 billion in hydrogen fuel cell technology, racking up more than 3.1 million miles of real-world experience in demonstration programs. The benefits of fuel cells are of interest to the U.S. Army, which will test the new Chevrolet Colorado ZH2, an off-road midsize pickup, next year in extreme conditions.
