The fitness center multi phase expansion finally got it right, when they move the dounut table to the front of the workout machine.

with the amount of work created by doing this, phase 2 of the plans include installing generators on their fitness equipment that should generate enough power for 768 homes.

These folks haven't caught on to the scheme yet. It's like giving away salty nuts and selling beer.

The fitness center added new first aid stations... they could decide what type so they let their members vote on it.

After failing at their restaurant, they looked at why it failed, and started a new type of fitness center. Needless to say, it's thriving.

Still. You come, you eat. You no stay long time. Me love you long time.

The trouble with exercise machines used as generators, it takes donuts to power them, and it takes fat to fry the donuts, and electricity to heat the fat.

It is a circle of life, just like a donut. OOOOOmmmm.

I getta de job, to getta de check, to getta the bread, to getta the meat, so I can getta to work.

This now generation is scary - all about the donuts. All about the donuts.

Glad to see Krispy Kreme marketing is improving. They may pass Dunkin Donuts. No worries , I bought both stocks long ago, but don't eat either. [Drs orders]

I frequently ride my bike uphill past this gym where people are riding stationary bicycles. They have the door open to let the heat out. I'm bundled up to keep the heat in. They going nowhere. I'm going places. Sometimes I'm tempted to yell "Come on out and have some fun!"

It's part of an exclusive club. In the other wing they have a restaurant. And they serve the most delicious orange rolls. I think the recipe is copyrighted.

"And they serve the most delicious orange rolls. I think the recipe is copyrighted."

They'd like to say that, but recipes and game rules are two categories that are NOT allowed copyright protection. What is allowed protection is the PRESENTATION of recipes and game rules. To state it correctly, their orange roll recipe is a Trade Secret.

You cannot claim copyright protection on a sweet roll recipe, or the rules for poker, but you CAN claim copyright protection on a recipe card that CONTAINS a sweet roll recipe(1), or a booklet CONTAINING the rules for poker(2). It is legal to transcribe the recipe or rules out of those sources, as long as you are not copying the style and presentation of the information; so you cannot simply photocopy or scan the original, and if there is any photographs or artwork, you cannot legally copy them, those items have their own copyright protection apart from the recipe card or rule book they are part of.

I have a lot of artist friends, ranging from amateur to semi-pro to professional, so I hear a lot about copyright and trademark law from them.

Notes:

  1. This is the reason for the copyright notice in the Betty Crocker Cookbook, for example, and also the reason I can legally retype the Candied Yam recipe for my family cookbook. In the family cookbook I also type up a history of where a recipe came from or how it was developed when it became a family tradition. I have also altered the recipe to account for the way it has been made in our family: doubling the sauce to yam ratio, and removing the salt.
  2. The RULES may be free from copyright, but the board layout, the design of the cards, dice, tokens, game money and playing pieces all ARE protected under copyright. It's really hard to make a 'copyright free' knockoff of a board game, because you have to change so much you are practically making a new game from scratch to avoid copying the parts you aren't allowed to copy.

We have a Krispy Kreme just off a recreational trail. A traffic bridge goes overhead. I've wanted grafitti on one side "Ten miles to the Donut Parade", a local institution. On the other "Four miles to Scrumpadiddlyumptious Donuts". You get the idea.

There was a treasure hunt along the trail. We were supposed to stop at the bridge and identify the smell.

We stopped at Krispy Kreme in the middle of a vintage bicycle pub crawl. A thirty mile pub crawl. Nothing like some solid carbs with your liquid carbs to carry you through.

The start was thirty miles away. I had to get up early to meet the group. I had some serious mileage by the end of the day. On a vintage bike. Good thing we had donuts.
