Louis Kahn is the architect, it's the Salk institute in La Jolla, Calif....

Did the project budget run out of money to finish (painting?) this job, or was it originally a design for another prison of some kind?...

Some rather ''brutalist'' forms in this one?...

Well, the price tag just might be beautiful to the one who ''sold'' the client on the (starkly harsh?) forms of this (precast tilt-up?) (fortress?)...

Where are there any trees, gardens, un-regimented shapes, height variety, etc.?...

Location: In the bothy, 7 chains down the line from Dodman's Lane level crossing, in the nation formerly known as Great Britain, and now disconnecting as Little England and Wales (not too sure about Wales bit, either). Kettle's on.

Solar Eagle was correct this week, with his guess that the image was Louis Khan’s design at the Salk Institute. Among architects, the institute is well known for its symmetrical concrete structures, but the institute, founded by Jonas Salk, is also home to many scientific discoveries.
