Almost - damn close - but in the drawing the wings have balconies and the roof doesn't have all those chimneys. Other differences also.

(No, I don't know which building it is.)

Wow, there is a ton of Chateau style buildings that look close to this but are not quite the same.

It is not the Biltmore Estate, not an Ivy League college main building (that I could find), not Monticello, not Mt. Vernon, not any of the horse racing venues of the triple crown in the United States, and not my back yard.

Wow! This is one of those classic architectures that the moment you see it you immediately think (operative word here) you know what this is, then you compare it to the building you think it is, and, well, as you see I have no answer either.

Where do I order?

I don't know where the OP is...but I thought it was European rather than New World.

All you need is a couple of wood pallets, a few slats maybe, maybe a small piece of plywood, saw, hammer, and nails. If concerned about nails poking the darlings, try using construction adhesive (if you put that on the cat's paws, they will stay away from surfaces with protruding nails) --(just kidding).

Be sure and apply catnip to the interior of upper level rooms. Nothing like crazy cat videos where they fall out of a balcony window.

Nice save (for me). You always manage to find the meat on the bones. BTW - you get a good answer for being off-topic.

I would rather have this one, but it is out of my price range:

$800,000,000

I have 2 cats, and neither would ever sleep that close to the other. I force them to stand side by side while eating, but the remainder of their time is usually spent in a room where the other one is not.

I couldn't remember a name, but I thought I saw something like it in Maryland/Virginia or on one of my trips to New England. The older, definitely settled by the English, areas. It just looks familiar.

Let's narrow this down: Is it on the El Camino Real?

I don't see a Chihuahua in the picture anywhere.... it is not East L.A.

I think we can safely rule out any place in Mexico.

Canada...I don't think so...

US - I am out of guesses.

I tried the Post Office in Hamburg, Germany, but it looks better than that.

Right now a hamburger sounds better than that.

I have not found even one other building on the web with nested cupolas, or a cupola resting upon an atrium, is that what you would call that? And certainly nothing with that long banner on it. I still think hippodrome. Not the Hippodrome of Constantinople, but nevertheless a horse racing venue of some type, in a place as yet unknown to me.

I'm starting to think the sketch is for the original building of a famous structure, which has since had major changes to it. Perhaps Bancroft Hall at the US Naval Academy.

Bancroft Hall is impressive, and I totally thank the Navy for all they do, and urge them onward to further their greatness, service, and readiness.

Unfortunately, I can't even find a replica of that, not even a lemonade stand that matches the architecture puzzle of the week!

Masonic orphanage near Darlington-El Reno,OK

I do not presently have an image of this location, but the archways in the line drawing remind me of the place my father took me once, to see where he was raised in Oklahoma. Thanks for stirring up pleasant memories of time spent with my dad.

Did it mention where the children's home is now? I am thinking about my second childhood!

I wasn't allowed to play this week because I accidentally cheated, but, I was going to offer up a more subtle hint. I was going to say that in the words of my namesake:

"At least I tried."

Thanks - I've never read or seen it, so it meant nothing.

Not getting the Randall / At least I tried ref either. I had a sheltered upbringing...

Famous quote from "Randle Patrick McMurphy" in "in one flew over the cuckoos nest". Another huge role for Jack Nicholson

The Stanley hotel sounded family,... a friend of mines kids stayed there... because it's believed to be haunted... and that was a good hint from sir robin.

As Brave Sir Robin hinted to you all, and Poison correctly guessed, this week’s Guess the Architecture was The Stanley Hotel—better known as the Overlook Hotel, the setting of Stephen King’s 1977 bestselling novel The Shining and its 1980 film adaptation. Stephen King's one-night stay at the Stanley is said to have inspired the novel.

According to the hotel, after the book and movie release, “the Stanley’s paranormal past [was] fully embraced.” You can read the hotel’s full story on their “haunted history” page.

Architecturally speaking, the hotel, now a member of the Historic Hotels of America, was constructed by “the Yankee inventor Freelan Oscar Stanley” and his wife Flora. The couple aimed to create a grand hotel for the wealthy that had all of the trappings of the hotels on the east coast. The Stanley opened in 1909. The hotel has since been restored, thanks to the fame it garnered from The Shining.

Thank you to Brave Sir Robin for submitting the idea for this week, and a special thanks to Randall, who protected all of our fun and alerted me to the fact that I had actually given you all the answer when I posted the image!

One movie I never watched. Sad how deprived I was while in college. We only had manual TV (you had to turn the crank to scroll the rolls through the player).
