Drones Deliver Lab Samples Between Two Swiss Hospitals

Posted May 09, 2017 12:00 AM by Engineering360 eNewsletter

Drone logistics vendor Swiss Post and drone maker Matternet are contributing to the project, which aims to modernize transport delivery, using autonomous drones to replace the current on-road system. The integration of drones will make transport faster and more efficient, and will improve patient care.

Hey Mildred, what was that red splosh all over the windscreen? How big was the bug, anyway? Are you sure it was a mosquito?

I can't wait until they are transferring specimens from the Ebola clinic.

I'm sure they occasionally fail to arrive under the existing delivery system. The drones can logically be faster, which is good. Whether they can meet or exceed current reliability remains to be seen.

Maybe the first thing the drones can do is deliver the walking papers to the transport drivers.

Under Matternet, http://fortune.com/2015/05/01/matternet-drone-delivery/

you can read this:

'It can carry 2.2 pounds up to 12 miles on a single charge (charging stations placed along the route can extend that range).'

Is that not the key problem? Cost is 5000 Euro or so. Automatic charging stations?

Flying vehicles where weight should be low and the range long, batteries just are the wrong answer. An ICE is needed for that kind of service. Fuel weight is so much lower than battery weight for equal kWh energy.

Most people are blindly trusting the current phobia on E-power.

I totally agree. I keep hearing these ads to invest (suspected scam) in some kind of new fuel that is going makes fleets travel twice as far between refills, and will power the International Space Station, and even large power generation plants will switch over to this in the near future....wonderfuel?

What is it? B something, O something, B something, or G something. I can't remember, and that is probably a good thing.

What scam is next? Claims of a pellet you drop in the gas tank, and then stick in the garden hose, and turn on the faucet? Really, are people that dumb now?

This message of a new super fuel is all over the place.

It must be a scam. What else can it be? 'Wonderfuel', Yeah right. Any way is good to scam people and lure the naive to give them money. Is is amazing however, how easy the general public can be deceived.

It is no different than the claim that 0.00012 increase of CO2 over the last 50 years is the cause for Global Warming. CC is a farce anyway as climates change continuously. That the increase of CO2 from 0.000280 to 0.000400 parts in the atmosphere is man made is also by no means assured and is very questionable as CO2 changes naturally. It can only be a scam too. Some call it the biggest pyramid scheme ever conceived. Just look at the originators who get very rich in the process. CO2 is accepted as a weak greenhouse gas while water vapour is the actual strong greenhouse gas and is the cause for keeping the earth 20 degree C warmer than without it. Adding that small amount of a weak substance would provide and immeasurable temperature rise. We can't even measure the average earth temperature to +-0.1 degree, how about measuring 0.00012 degrees? BTW, all from a maximum of 20 deg C variance.

I also read that during 2 minutes the sun is providing as much energy to the earth that is consumed by all nations on earth in one year. 2 Minutes = 365 * 24 * 60 /2 = 262,800 times as much energy as is used by industry, transport and all in one whole year. What would 0.00012 parts CO2 added to the atmosphere do relative to the sun energy?
