Hemmings Motor News Blog

Hemmings Motor News has been around since 1954. We're proud of our heritage, but we're also more than the Hemmings full of classifieds that your father subscribed to. Aside from new editorial content every month in Hemmings, we have three monthly magazines: Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car and Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car.

While our editors traverse the country to find the best content for those magazines, we find other oddities related to the old-car hobby that we really had no place for - until now. With this blog, we're giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what we see and what we do during the course of putting out some of the finest automotive magazines you'll ever read.

Open Diff – Continuing the Conversation About Young People and Old Cars

So, my column in the December 2017 issue of Hemmings Motor News generated quite the response over how to attract more young people into the old car hobby. All of the responses were positive, and many people shared their own success stories of getting youth behind the wheel, but by far everybody wanted to make sure we continued the conversation so we could share ideas and develop action plans.

So, that’s just what we’re going to do here. Share with us what you’ve done to foster enthusiasm in old cars among younger generations. Has your club made any efforts to combat the so-called graying of the hobby? And do you have any specific ideas that you think would help in this area?

By the way, this is meant to be an ongoing discussion, so make sure you check the “Notify me of followup comments” box when leaving a comment on Hemmings Daily.
