Welcome to Instrumentation 2.0

Posted August 31, 2007 11:06 AM by Chris Leonard

Does the word "Test" fall within your job description? If so, you'll probably agree with this author, who writes: "Test instrumentation is undergoing a fundamental change — from fixed-functionality standalone instruments to flexible software-based devices that can be redefined by the user."

The article discusses the benefits of this software-based approach toward instrumentation, in which generic hardware components are used to digitize a signal. Then, this raw data is processed by a general-purpose computer running custom signal analysis routines. The result is an instrument that can be readily reconfigured to suit a variety of test requirements.

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Data Acquisition, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Data Acquisition today.
