Yes, We Have Hybrid Control

The distinct differences between programming distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are beginning to converge into a universal function block concept, IEC 61499. It provides a simple and effective basis for solving control problems. A new hybrid architecture is evolving, based largely on powerful industrial personal computers.
