How did an expanding Duluth, MN health care system create a medical campus that reflected its "vision of health?" When the SMDC Health System was established by the merger of three independent hospitals, the new operation took on a single, unified mission — to be the best and healthiest place in the world to receive medical treatment. That mission encompassed green cleaning and maintenance practices as well as a new cancer treatment clinic constructed on a sustainable parcel of riverfront land. That sustainability, combined with an efficient energy-and-furnishings program, earned the multi-phase project a LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington, D.C.
