The (not so) Daily Chris

Disclaimer: Chris Leonard is not an engineer, but he plays one on CR4.

Actually, I'm what you would call a "technology professional." I'm an editor and technical writer by trade. I'm interested in the dissemination of information, especially in relation to "Web 2.0", "Nu Media," etc., what ever you want to call it. I'm going to use this blog to investigate the big questions in the ever changing media landscape: How do we in the early 21st century communicate with each other? What tools do we use? How is language evolving? How can two people read the same sentence and draw two completely different conclusions?

I also have a soft spot for Cryptozoology and Urban Legends, so I will likely write about them from time to time.

Greetings from Blogworld & New Media Expo

Posted November 08, 2007 2:25 PM by Chris Leonard

Hey there CR4 readers! It's the second day of the Blogworld & New Media conference. I'll speak about some of the thought provoking sessions in a later post. Right now, I'm more interested in pontificating about Las Vegas.

It's my second time Las Vegas, both times for blogging and Web 2.0 Conferences. In truth, this city is wasted on me. I don't gamble (at least when I know the odds are stacked against me), I'm not into magic shows, Celine Dion or the like; and while I do enjoy intellectually imbued burlesque, there's little of that here (not that I've looked too hard ). I'd much rather be hiking in some of the canyons around Lake Mead or touring the Hoover Dam (maybe next time).

Apparently, my point of view isn't the prevailing one. The level of construction activity on the strip is simply amazing. Resorts like the Wynn are radically expanding the number of rooms available. With the recent implosions of the Stardust and other resorts, there is a lot going on. I am simply amazed by the number of tower cranes that are at work day and night. By the way, does anyone know how they keep from toppling over when bearing heavy loads, and what is the process by which they build themselves higher?

Anyway, I'm off to a session on Building Online Reputation, so I have to sign off. I'll be back in the "office" on Monday.

- Chris

Building Online Reputation.

I'm sure that with judicious editing some of the threads could fit into just about any forum you cared to target...from comedy, to politics, religion.... Hey Chris there's even some Engineering creeps in!

But what ever you do don't mention Kris' wretched bath!!

(That hiking does sound more fun than the strip)

have fun

If you get a chance to do some hiking, check out this story by frankd20 about Bryce Canyon. It appeared in the "TechnoTourist's Engineering Adventures" blog and is called "From Las Vegas (Lost Wages) to the Land of the Lost". Enjoy the rest of your trip!
