A French engineer recently subjected Leonardo's famous "Mona Lisa" to some extremely close scrutiny, using infrared and ultraviolet sensors as well as 13 different color filters. He did that to create 240-megapixel scans that he's spent some 3,000 hours analyzing. This article describes some of his findings, which indicate alterations due to reconstruction efforts. It also notes that Da Vinci changed his mind about several details in his painting. Could the same technology be used in different industrial applications?
