Is 3D Imaging Ahead of its Time?

There's a lot of buzz about 3D imaging in the area of textiles and apparel. A North Carolina company now wants to bring this imaging technology to the masses with a shared data network. No doubt the technology has consumer benefits, especially in the areas of custom clothing and body measuring for health and fitness. But is 3D body imaging a technology whose time has come or is it well ahead of its time outside the healthcare arena?
