Linear Motor with Nanometer Precision

Posted March 21, 2008 8:30 AM

This tiny, atypical linear (0.5 in³) ceramic motor uses piezoelectric bending elements to effect linear motion directly. It eliminates the need to transform rotation with gears and leadscrews. Resolution is less than one nanometer. Applications include Laser Tuning, Data-Storage, Test & Production Equipment, and Bio-Technology. Where else could you apply it? (Simple registration required)
