Global Growth for Green Polymers

The global market for biodegradable polymers, increasingly used in medical and geotextiles, could more than double by 2012, according to a report by BCC Research. Compost bags and packaging materials, currently the two largest markets, are still early in the product life cycle due to "relatively high prices and lack of an infrastructure." While North America has lagged Europe and Asia in development and use of biodegradable polymers, rapidly rising petroleum prices and "green" legislative initiatives are sparking new interest in these polymers.
