Is Your Company Serious About Saving?

Posted April 03, 2008 9:45 AM

Energy costs comprise an increasing percentage of manufacturing costs. Energy options include photovoltaic, solar thermal, geothermal, biofuels, wind, and hydro. Renewable energies come in many different forms, from wind and water that are considered to be environmentally friendly, to reclaimed methane and biomass, which still produce pollutants when used, but far less — on the whole — than traditional fuels. Does your company have plans to develop renewable energy programs? Other than cutbacks or shutdown, how will you stay competitive?

With "dirty" Fossil continuously increasing and with the Universal Appeal for "Clean Environment", I don't believe any one Factory anywhere in the World would not want to swift to "Clean" Alternative Energy (AE) Options - if its use would bring down cost. While the bankability/marketability of "Carbon Credits" could encourage Change-over from Fossil fuel to AE Options sooner than later, the quantification, verification, and Host-Country administration of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) appear complicated. Perhaps, a universally-accepted "Carbon Calculator" removed from the politics of any Host Country would make the CDM gain popularity faster.
