New Software: Running or Wrapped in Plastic?

Posted May 28, 2008 9:38 AM

Computerized MRO advances such as computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) is supposed to make preventive maintenance easier and keep production running smoothly. But even the best tool can't do a job if you leave it on the truck or in the tool crib instead of putting it in your belt. And new tools often require new training to achieve real success. Does your company buy into technological fads, but fail to put the money behind training an integration that would make the technology work as advertised?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Industrial MRO, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Industrial MRO today.

One of the worst thing with CMMS choice is that it is often done by people who don't know about maintenance. They chose a "wonderful" ERP system and by the way they have a cmms module so ... "hey maintenance team... here is your new software". So most of the time it's not appropriated, it's too complicated, it's too long to implement, it demands too many changes ... so --> it finally stays in the truck !

Please be smart:
1- work with financial people and VPs to explain you real needs
2- and try to find the right solution for you. Anyway with today up to date technology software can links with any other software.

Use those two simple hints to be able to really get benefits of you CMMS.
