I'll cast my vote for Beatrix Potter, simply because she was so multi-faceted. After all, how many scientists also write children's books?

That's who I voted for too! Aside from MintyFresh's story about Hedy Lamarr I found Beatrix Potter to be the most fascinating woman we've featured here in the WoW blog.

As to how many scientists have written children's books, I don't know the answer to that but I'm sure the CR4 community can help us out, there must be others?

I'll cast my runner-up vote for Hedy Lamarr, too. The image of Ms. Lamarr that ran in MintyFresh's story could be made into a poster with a title such as "Science is Sexy" for display in high schools. Such as poster might not produce a plethora of Nobel Prize winners, but it could help dispel the myth that science isn't "cool" - and that all scientists wear white lab coats.

My top three from that list are (in this order): Hedy Lamarr, Beatrix Potter, Marie Curie. All have inspired me. Notably missing is my personal favorite, though, Rachel Carson...

EnviroMan,

I was actually planning to feature Rachel Carson later this summer. The beach my family vacations on in Maine is surrounded by the Rachel Carson wildlife preserve and I'd like to visit and do a multiple part series on the preserve and Rachel Carson, so check back later in August!

You can also vote for her on this link too www.womeninscience.co.uk

Thanks!

Julie
