Good game

Posted July 23, 2008 8:24 AM

From The Engineer:

An artificial intelligence researcher at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has produced a computer program that invents highly absorbing games that can be played on a board or online. The program, called Ludi, takes the component rules of board games like chess, draughts and tic-tac-toe, and evolves them to 'spit out' new games which it then measures for their potential to engross players. It was developed by PhD student Cameron Browne.

See? I've been warning about this for years. Everybody thinks humans will be enslaved by Terminator-esque robots wielding horrible, terrible weapons of futuristic death-ray destruction.

But no. No! THIS is how the machines will subjugate man. By "entertaining" humanity into a drooling stupor with an endless series of ever-more-fascinating games. GAMES!

"But wait" you say. "Not everybody plays games!". Yes, you're right of course. But you're forgetting the 2nd evil line of attack: reality TV shows. The remaining people will sit entranced for hours watching other people competing with these games for valuable prizes. And all in glorious, high-definition digital transmissions.

What? You thought electronic gaming and reality TV programs and 1080p and DVRs and a billion worldwide satellite channels just happened to converge at this point in history at random? HA! You fool. Enjoy your precious "Pac Man Supreme 3D War of Gods Part IV" as you slowly starve to death from the machines quietly squeezing shut your supply of delicious life-giving Funyuns.

Me? I'm sticking exclusively to my checker board. If you want to live you'll do the same!

I agree. Just what I need. A computer to have a distract-o-meter to make sure that I maximize the amount of time I waste.

God help those with ADD already!

Isn't that what CR4 is for?

from me

Hello Guest,

Haha, you gave yourself away by writing that Post, so you are not exclusively occupying yourself on that Checkers board.

Nevertheless, you have earned a GA point.

Kind Regards....

It is more "Dumbing Down", and is another distraction from what's really happening in the World.

Time to grow up, give away the childish games.

As for our "Guest", better to play Chess, rather than "Checkers" (Draughts to the folks from the UK)

Kind Regards....
