Making a Case for Space

Posted July 24, 2008 8:13 AM

At the Olympics or national political conventions wireless microphones give journalists flexibility to move freely. Some technology companies have asked the FCC for permission to sell wireless devices that would operate in this same band spectrum as wireless microphones, known as white space. The companies claim their systems won't interfere with microphones. Opponents say space sharing could change the face of reporting. Do you think the FCC should allow competition for this space? Do you think there will be frequency interruptions if the devices are approved?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Wireless Technology, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Wireless Technology today.

Yes, it will not only be frequency interruption, but put succinctly, legalised jamming.

But seriously, sharing this space will depend on the power output, which in turn determines the radius of coverage of the equipment.

Thus, the key word will be, low power to avoid interference.

cheers,
