Where Has All the Money Gone?

Posted August 04, 2008 8:22 AM

The recession means everyone's trimming back their budgets, which spells trouble for basic scientific research. If your research depends on grant money, beware: you're trying to grab a slice from an ever-shrinking pie. NIH and NSF funding is down, and now Wired reports that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's budget will be cut by $100 million. What's a researcher to do? Is this time to rein in spending, boldly try for larger projects, or refocus on short-term commercially promising work?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Scientific Instruments, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Scientific Instruments today.

The banks giveth and the banks taketh away, you don't own your banks you have no say.

Our pubic servants have now spent way more than our average income per year for every citizen. They don't need our currency they have our money and our country in debt.

Serveral companies in the US that had 3 to 5 R & D LABS went to China and opened 20 or 30 with help and funding from the Chinesse Government. All the Chinesse schools are connected to these R & d LABS.

Simple answer; Bureaucracy

The government has proven so often that it is irresponsible with your money, and the public has continually demanded more checks and balances. The government's fix is to hire more bureaucrats, thus spending more money, and taking longer to do the same thing.

I thought I was going to go on a rant on how govt doesn't need our money, but all the posts have said it better than I can.

Everyone, my goal is to get as many people as possible to read "Atlas Shrugged" before the presidential elections. Even if you don't agree with the ideals of Ayn Rand's "Egoism", the imagery of the US and how it gets to where it nearly ends is too vivid and realistic to ignore.
