Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women

Forbes has released its annual list of the 100 most powerful women in the world.

Of the top 10, 5 are scientists or engineers.

Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany at #1 on the list studied physics and received her doctorate based on her thesis on quantum chemistry.

Indra K. Nooyi, #3 on the list and the Chairwoman and CEO of PepsiCo received her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.

Cynthia Carroll, CEO of Anglo American PLC (a UK mining company), and #5 on the list, holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geology.

Ho Ching, the CEO of Temasek Holdings, an Asia investment house, is #8 on the list. She graduated from the University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering. She also holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Anne Lauvergeon, #9 on the list, is the CEO of Areva a French nuclear power conglomerate. She studied physics in college and joined the Corps de Mines where she studied the iron and steel industry as well as chemical saftey.

Yes, now Angela Merkel is pretty impressive. You could have better devoted time and effort to a discussion about her than wasting time on Rachel Carson.
