Do We Stop Shrinking Displays and Raising Resolution?

Posted October 14, 2008 12:00 AM

It's easy to claim that finer resolution and more compact screens are progress. But I have to wonder: at what point is it less useful? Our population is aging, our collective eyes are aging, and the beautiful high resolution on tiny screens is being wasted on vision that just can't see it. Should we be focusing on bigger screens? Do small and fine displays work best for you? If not, what sort of displays would be most useful to you? A microprojector on your phone? A scrollable, flexible display?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Display Technologies, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Display Technologies today.

Yes smaller screens with high resolutions are convenient for portability and mobility. In my openion, that is all there is to it as they do not synchronise readily with fast video streams. In essence, the big screens still hold the big screens still hold the ace for me.

when i read over this article, i have many viewpoints on this topic. as the author said, our population is aging, and our sights is going, so should stop shrinking displays and rasing the resoluton. Meanwhile, broad display is help for our sights, when a thing reaches its extreme, it reverses its course.

The answer of course depends on who is the intended user.

in a word: Presbyopia.
