Not everyone hasn’t heard of them

Posted October 22, 2008 10:56 AM by mavella

I've been at the inaugural Renesas DevCon in San Diego this week, and it's been very interesting so far. The Renesas folks have been gracious hosts, and being in San Diego is always … well, pretty much perfect. And there have been a few surprises.

I met a long-time friend from my previous Motorola field sales life who now works for Renesas, and he commented that "we're the biggest company you've probably never heard of." While I'd heard of them, and that's somewhat true in North America due to the OEM nature of the business, it's clear from the attendees here that there is a core audience that is very familiar with them.

Never heard of them, until now.....

10/23/2008 4:41 AM

Hello mavella

<"....Not everyone hasn't heard of them....">

The above is a double negative statement, which may also be stated as: "Everyone has heard of them". (with the double negatives removed)

The statement is patently untrue and looks unprofessional.

I only heard of them just now, and there are hundreds of millions who have not heard of them.

Kind Regards....

Actually, I think this is one case where a double negative does make sense. It negates the phrase "everyone hasn't heard of them", which apparently is untrue. At any rate, I find it inoffensive...
