Kindling Your Interest?

Posted March 15, 2009 8:02 AM

The Kindle 2 is here with a thinner package and more shades of gray — as well as redesigned ergonomic features. There's been plenty of hoopla — from PC World's "hands-on" review, to online comic xkcd's glee over free cellular Web access. But the people I know are really waiting for a color version — which may be in the works. What would make Kindle perfect for you?

The preceding article is a "sneak peek" from Display Technologies, a newsletter from GlobalSpec. To stay up-to-date and informed on industry trends, products, and technologies, subscribe to Display Technologies today.

I hate reading off computer screens! That being said, the Kindle is not a computer screen, it's a book! The white-paper technology works extremely well; it's just like reading printed paper. The cellular technology was a master stroke - no need to find a hot spot (and it's free). You can surf the web if you want and it's still free.

In short, I own the Kindle... Now, I own the Kindle 2. In my opinion, the first Kindle is next to perfect, Kindle 2 is perfect.

By the way, did I tell you about how much my reading speed has increased?

Sounds like you're more interested in reading your own stuff. It does PDF, and if you send them a Word doc, they'll convert for you. And, yes. You can browse the web on it, and do email if you want.

With the addition of color and images the only thing missing is the ability to set it to read in the dark without the use of additional light, you know, so your spouse can sleep while you read in bed . . .
